All Hallows Insomnia · Tuesday October 31, 2006
It’s 1:30 am here in London on November 1st, 2006. I’ve been in bed for 2 hours, and the brain is wide awake and won’t rest. There is a Soundtrack to this:
→ I See A Darkness by Bonnie “Prince” Billy
→ Days in the Wake by Palace Brothers
→ I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One by Yo La Tengo (I forgot how much I love this album)
→ Tanglewood Numbers by the Silver Jews
→ The Avalanche by Sufjan Stevens
→ Time (The Revelator) by Gillian Welch
I’m missing my friends and family and the Northwest and I generally feel quite unproductive/uncreative these days. Which doesn’t make sense, because I’m doing a Master’s Degree, right? I’m in the library or reading for at least 3 hours a day. But there isn’t a tangible result, like with music or design. I’m basically taking these abstract theories and then internalising them until I get into seminar, where we talk about the theories for an hour and then leave. I NEED REIFICATION!
Or, perhaps more realistically, I just need to get out of London for a few days. I’ve been in the city for about 7 weeks straight now, and I think the lack of proper nature is driving me a bit bonkers. Reading Week is coming up. My friend Keren lives in Cardiff. Wales? Always wanted to go there. Hmm…
