New Songs · Tuesday July 4, 2006

I recorded 5 newish songs with Phil last week. They are about endings and beginnings. Not sure what I’m going to do with the recordings, but here are two of them. They probably sound best if you listen to them in a nice pair of headphones.

The Rest.mp3
Note: Liam from Yukon used the word “asunder” in a song way before I did. When I wrote the lyrics to this, I wasn’t consciously aware of this, but I think my subconscious somehow appropriated the word, because we’d just been on tour together for a couple of weeks. I suppose I could have changed it to something else, but I like the way it fits, and Liam’s song is better anyway. Go and buy Yukon’s album Furnaces immediately.

Into The Nada.mp3
Complete with soothing adult contemporary classical guitar and a quad tracked army of Alex voices, this is a really short song that steals a Karl Blau lyric and even song title. Shameless! Actually, I’m going to change the song name. We weren’t planning on recording this, but I wrote it quickly at the end of the recording session and I needed a lyric for the end and it was going to be “into nothingness” or something like that but Genevieve suggested “into the nada” and I liked the reference because that’s such a good Karl Blau song, and gosh, here it is.
